Inspection tests include the following:

Adhesion / Cross Hatch

A test method by which the bond between the coating and the substrate are checked. Decc performs 4 different types of this test:

  • X Cross Hatch
  • Grid Cut
  • Triple Cross Hatch
  • Non Destructive

Attribute Gauging

A Test method by which coating thickness is checked to validate that the coating is not too thick to cause fit issues. The types of Gauges include:

  • Go No Go
  • Ring
  • Plug

Coating Thickness

A test method where the actual coating thickness is measured to ensure that the thickness falls within the tolerances to the part specifications. Decc performs this test using a Fischerscope and a Beta backscatter.

Conductivity

A test method to validate properly activated and cured Sermagard coating via Ohms resistance. Sermagard is a licensed coating that cures at 650 F. The coating must be properly activated via blasting of glass media to bring the sacrificial aluminum to the surface of the coating.

Cure Testing

A test method where the coating is evaluated to ensure that it has been properly cured. This is done via chemical rub on the surface of the coating. 2 test methods currently used are MEK and Water (which is strictly used on Sermagard coating).

Dimensional Measurement

A non desctructive test method to validate coating thickness on the substrate. Two measurement devices that Decc use are Calipers and a micrometer.
