Remanufacturing Application Programs – Protective Coatings

Remanufactured Part

The DECC Company takes pride in being environmentally friendly by taking part in remanufacturing programs that allow parts to be reused. In fact, 30% of our core business involves applying coating to remanufactured parts designed for rebuilt machines. Our method for applying protective coating greatly reduces cost for the manufacturer. They get more life out of their parts, they keep their manufacturing in house, and they are not required to create new parts from start to finish. Some of the biggest savings is due to not having to produce a new part in some cases saving anywhere from 40% to 60%.

The savings involved in remanufacturing are not only financially beneficial, but environmentally beneficial, as well. Any part that can be taken out of a non-functioning machine and made to work again is one less hunk of metal mined from the earth. The process saves the part from ending up in a dump or a landfill where rain water can wash oils and pollutants into the ground. Less energy is required to remanufacture a part than is needed to create one from scratch. It follows then that the remanufacturing process emits fewer greenhouse gases (CO2) than a typical manufacturing process. As one example of remanufacturing we've seen at DECC, a customer challenged us to apply a protective coating to a used part that goes into a diesel engine. The heavy parts were stripped off of non-functioning engines, cleaned using environmentally friendly processes and sent to our facility. Upon arrival they were further cleaned of lingering residues, such as oil or lubricant, and sent to our spray application line. With the help of our engineering team, our spray technicians expertly applied a uniform layer of protective coating over the entire part. These individual parts are remanufactured to ensure they provide the same quality, reliability, and durability as they did when they were new. The reconditioned part was shipped back and installed in a rebuilt engine, in better than new condition!
